INS Vikramaditya to leave for defending Indian Navy

On November 16th, our team participated in a solemn handover and Indian flag hoisting onboard INS Vikramaditya at the Sevmash Production Association, a shipyard executing the order of the Indian MOD.

The final Acceptance and Handover Report was signed by Igor Sevastianov, Deputy General Director of JSC Rosoboronexport, and Commodore Suraj Berry, INS Vikramaditya Captain. The ceremony was also attended by Dmitry Rogozin, Russian Deputy Prime Minister, and Arackaparambil Kurien Antony, Indian Minister of Defence.

“Being among VIP guests, we are happy to see the ship not in her usual operating condition with large-scale modernisation work in progress on board, rather as a thoroughly cleaned, decorated and shining warship ready to perform her state duty. We are proud to make our own, quite significant, contribution to implement this ambitious project for Russia. We wish the ship fair seas and calm service defending the interests of the Indian state!” said Mikhail V. Motsak, the company Director.

We note that the work undertaken by Marine Complex Systems Ltd. on re-outfitting the VIP-cabins have been highly praised by the Customer.

Igor Ponomarev, Vice President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC):

“Deals for aircraft carriers are unique and made once in one hundred years. This is an unprecedented occurrence as the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrying cruiser has been re-equipped into a full-fledged aircraft carrier. We signed the contract in 2004, and started the trials in 2012. As for now the ship is completely ready to be handed over.

After a large-scale retrofitting at Sevmash the aircraft carrier is now equipped with a state-of-the-art flight deck and ski-jump for MiG-29K/KUB (МиГ-29К/КУБ) fighters, communications complex navigation and radar systems, air command and control systems and other equipment.

INS Vikramaditya is planned to leave the Russian territorial waters at the end of November. The ship will make a long crossing and arrive in India at the end of January – at the beginning of February, 2014.
